December 29, 2012. More Muskegon Steel

Had Jake and his dad out for Jake's birthday and put some nice fish in the boat on an afternoon float.

Jake with a monster birthday steelhead.

Awesome Muskegon River lake run brown trout.

December 27, 2012. Dr. Dan

Had Dr. Dan from Detroit out today for a great day fly fishing trout beads for steelhead, again covering lots of water to find active fish was the key.

Fly fishing beads under indicators was the ticket today.

December 26, 2012. Winter on the MO

Spent a beautiful day on the river with DJ and Scott today, these guys put a pounding on this fish landing 8
steelhead and a ton of nice trout.

                                                                         DJ with a big buck.

                                                           Scott with a chrome male.

DJ dressed for the cold weather with another big winter steelhead.

Scott with a bright hen, fresh fish continue to push in daily. Covering a lot of water pays off, we found several         pods of fish throughout the day and once the sun warmed the water a couple of degrees the bite really picked up

December 7, 2012. Keep on Raining

Took a break and got out on the White last week with Kyle, another guide friend from Alaska.
Man I love this little stream in the winter!

Back on the MO the water began dropping again after a week of good flows but then we had another shot of rain to bring the water back up nicely, moving more fish up through the system and keeping fishing steady.

Some nice chromers from the middle section of the Muskegon.

Just starting to show those winter colors.

Here are a fresh from the lake chromer and one the has been in the system for a while that I picked up on a quick exploratory trip by myself.

December 4, 2012. A Little Water Makes A Big Difference

Finally some rain! The MO came up nicely over the past few days and has sustained 2000 fps for 5 days really turning on the fish. As I suspected a lot of fresh fish moved up with the higher water and the fishing has been great.

James, a fellow guide from Alaska, with a nice brown "on the swing" from the MO.

Mike with a big chrome hen, great day on the the water!

Dave with one of many from this week.

Mike with a 13# hen, the biggest of the day.

November 23, 2012. Low, Low Water

Water levels have continued to steadily drop making fishing a little more difficult, fortunately there a big numbers of steelhead in the system this year and we are still landing lots of fish. Trout fishing has continued to improve over the last few weeks and these fish are fat and feisty after gorging on salmon eggs for the last six weeks.

A good dose of rain and some cooler temps could move a lot of fish that have been holding in the lower sections to push up but if not we can easily cover big sections of water each trip to find the active fish. I have open dates throughout the next two weeks so give me a call and we can hit up the Muskegon for some fresh chrome!

My dad and I hit the river for a little fishing before the feast on Thanksgiving, only boat on the river on a gorgeous fall morning. Landed lots of trout but he had a little trouble with big boys going 0/3 on stellhead, but I did manage to put this nice hen in the boat to cap of the morning.

November 8, 2012. Prey For Rain!

The river has dropped over a foot in the last ten days and the water is crystal clear, those conditions along with the increased boat traffic have made the fish very spooky. There continues to be good numbers of fish in the system but presentation and stealth have become very import to consistently hooking fish.

November 3, 2012

I have still been busy running a lot of trips for another local guide and the fishing is still going strong. Boat traffic is definitely picking up but with a little searching there are plenty of steelhead to be had and I also picked up another awesome 27' brown this week.

My dad and my sister hit the lower river for a quick trip Saturday morning and went 4/4 in just two hours. The fish are still pouring out of the big lake and this should be a great winter steelhead season!

Call me to book a trip, enjoy a beautiful fall day on the river and tangle with a trophy Michigan steelhead!

Fall Chrome!

Been really busy with trips the month, guiding the Big Manistee and The Muskegon rivers. As of this week there are still a ton of salmon on gravel in Newaygo and the steelhead fishing is really heating up! Still managed to get out a few times with the family and my sisters are quickly falling victim to the addiction. All this rain brought in a lot fresh fall steelhead, the entire system has good numbers and we have been able to find some decent size pods of fish making for days with double digit hook ups.

Kayela with a bright fall chromer on the centerpin!

KK with a high flyin skipper.

Proud Papa!

JP with a monster fall Muskegon steelhead.

Gorgeous fall brown that slammed a micro egg fly behind spawning salmon.

Crankin'

The cold weather is just started and the salmon sure do like it. The first pushes of kings are just staring show themselves.
I had a chance to fish with Gary and Nolan and we had a blast spending a nice evening casting cranks these beasts.
